# MapMetrics

> MapMetrics is a world map on the web and in iOS and Android apps: search for places, get directions by car, motorbike, bicycle, on foot, by truck and by public transport, and see short photo and video stories that people post from the places they visit. The website is https://mapmetrics.org.

MapMetrics is built on its own map stack (MapAtlas tiles, geocoding and routing; OpenStreetMap data) rather than on Google or Apple maps. The website is a single interactive map; almost everything on it happens inside that map, so there is little static text to read. This file describes what the site does and which URLs are stable.

## What the site does

- Map: a world map with a globe view, live traffic, terrain and 3D buildings with generated roofs and windows.
- Search: places and addresses worldwide.
- Directions: car, motorbike, bicycle, walking and truck routes with alternatives, stops along the way, departure or arrival time, and options to avoid motorways, tolls and ferries.
- Public transport (in the apps, and being rolled out on the website): door-to-door journeys with live delays, cancellations and platform changes, station departure boards, and bike-and-train options, in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Finland and Cyprus.
- Stories: short photos and videos posted by app users at real places, shown on the map.
- Places: names, categories, opening hours, contact details and photos for points of interest.
- Languages: English at the root, and 17 more under a prefix: es, nl, fr, de, it, pt, ja, zh-CN, ar, ru, ko, hi, bn, id, tr, vi, fa.
